Features
Nowadays many programs are able to display meta data like IPTC, EXIF or JPEG comments, but you have to press several buttons to see them for just one picture. Mapivi is able to show and edit this informations for a number of pictures at once (batch processing). The unique feature (as far as I know :) of mapivi is the compact tabular display of all pictures in a directory with:
- thumbnail
- filename
- comments
- EXIF infos (date, time, aperture, exposure time, ISO, mode, camera in a short readable form)
- IPTC/IIM infos
- file size, size in pixels, aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2, 1:1, ...)
- click on thumbnail to open picture in original size
what else ...
- generate and display thumbnail pictures
- store generated thumbnail pictures in a subdir or a thumbnail database for faster access the next time the directory is opened
- IPTC/IIM information (International Press
Telecommunications Council Information Interchange Model) with
keywords, categories, location, headline, caption/abstract, writer, ...:
- display

- hierarchical IPTC keywords and categories
- save and merge IPTC templates
- rating of pictures with the IPTC urgency flag, may also be used to sort and search pictures

Anti-Features
mapivi ...
- can't display anything but JEPG pictures (but since Mapivi version 0.1.48 it's able to convert other formats (GIF, PNG, TIFF, ...) to JPEG and display them)
- is not able to edit any EXIF data, but the date and time (like e.g. Exifer on Windows)
- is not able to print pictures
